Micro-sampling blood in Aquila

Patient capillary blood sampling is becoming increasingly popular mainly due to the growing point of care and near patient testing markets and is aimed in providing a convenient means to assist in the diagnosis of various disease states, patient management and treatment monitoring.

A capillary blood sample generally refers to a sample collected from a finger, heel or earlobe puncture and it enjoys several advantages over venous blood sampling: it is less invasive, takes smaller blood volumes, does not require traditional blood collection devices and can be performed quickly and easily.

Diatron has recently conducted and completed a clinical evaluation on the Aquila analyzer to demonstrate its use and performance with small volume micro blood samples. As the comparison showed very good correlation between the two sample types (venous and capillary), the Diatron Aquila Hematology analyzer can now be used to perform complete blood cell counts (CBC) with human blood, collected in either standard EDTA collection tubes (Vacutainer type) or with micro sampling tubes.
